Solomon Pavliashvili: "Ensuring Environmental Stability is an Important State Priority"

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, delivered the opening remarks at the Council of the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) meeting. In his address, he highlighted the center's efforts and the vital role of EU support in advancing environmental priorities.

 

"As you know, ensuring environmental stability is a key state priority. In this process, the role and importance of the  Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus should be emphasized as long as the center plays a crucial role in fulfilling the European Green Deal plan and harmonizing Georgian legislation with the EU law. Notably, our cooperation has been effective and will continue in the future," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

 

The meeting was attended by Mr. Nikolas Senderovich, Head of the Cooperation Department of the EU Representation in Georgia, along with high-ranking officials from the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia, including representatives from non-governmental organizations and academic circles.

During the session, Mrs. Sofia Ahobadze, Executive Director of REC Caucasus, presented the center’s activity report for 2023-2024. Discussions covered crucial topics, such as adopting innovative farming techniques, developing a circular economy, combating plastic pollution, sustainable pasture management, and achieving land degradation neutrality.

 

The parties also highlighted significant achievements in the sustainable development of aquatic ecosystems and forests as natural resources. Council members discussed plans to further these efforts.
