The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, delivered a keynote address at the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) Ministerial in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The event, a joint initiative by the United States (U.S.) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), featured opening remarks by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Thomas J. Vilsack and the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al Dahak.
AIM for Climate seeks to significantly boost global engagement through innovation and investment in climate-smart agriculture and food systems.
In her address, Mrs. Tandilashvili highlighted Georgia’s active efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on agriculture, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building resilience and adaptive capacity in the sector.
“The Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy 2021–2027 prioritizes the adoption and implementation of climate-smart agricultural practices. Efficient management of water resources, including their conservation and rational use, is central to our approach to addressing climate challenges. By 2028, the Government of Georgia plans to invest GEL 3 billion in the agricultural sector to support farmers, with USD 300 million already mobilized to develop modern irrigation systems. I believe that the adoption of innovative solutions will help reduce the impact of climate change on agriculture and enhance productivity. Through collective efforts, we will be able to take significant steps,” stated Mrs. Tandilashvili.
The Ministerial "Agricultural Innovations for Climate Mission" held within the framework of the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, brought together high-ranking delegates from about 20 countries worldwide.
