Solomon Pavliashvili Participates in Meeting on Waste Management and Circular Economy Development in Georgia
Solomon Pavliashvili, Georgia's Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, participated in an event held under the framework of the EU-funded project, “Support to Waste Management and Development of Circular Economy in Georgia.”
“The development of a circular economy is a top priority for Georgia. Adopting modern waste management approaches and ensuring active participation from the private sector are crucial. This transition presents both a significant opportunity and a considerable challenge for the country,” stated Pavliashvili.
The meeting primarily focused on exploring investment opportunities in processing end-of-life tires and addressing gender and social inclusion in the circular economy. Discussions also highlighted the importance of advancing extended producer responsibility (EPR) frameworks in Georgia.
The project, funded by the European Union and supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, is being implemented by the international consultancy firm COWI and the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus). It aims to enhance Georgia's waste management system and promote the adoption of circular economy principles, fostering sustainable development across the country.
