At the joint session of the Finance and Budget, Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy, Agrarian Issues, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, and Regional Policy and Self-Government Committees, Mr. David Songulashvili, the candidate for the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, highlighted the agricultural sector's crucial role in Georgia’s economy. He emphasized the importance of adopting modern technologies, and sharing best international practices, and reviewed key initiatives and achievements in the sector over the past 12 years.
“As you know, rural and agricultural development are vital components of our country’s economy. The growth of this sector, coupled with the adoption of advanced technologies and the exchange of best international practices, has a direct impact on improving the well-being of our population.
Over the last 12 years, the Georgian government has taken decisive, results-oriented steps to stimulate agricultural growth, evidenced by the launch of several state programs.
Through the preferential agro-credit scheme, 47,000 beneficiaries received loans amounting to GEL 6.5 billion. This funding supported the establishment of over 400 processing enterprises and storage facilities and financed 7,500 units of equipment with GEL 120 million. Additionally, under the ‘Plant the Future’ initiative, new orchards were planted on 23,600 hectares, backed by a GEL 360 million investment,” stated Mr. Songulashvili.
