David Songulashvili inspected the rehabilitation works of the Headwaters of the Kvemo Samgori Irrigation System and the Right Main Canal.
Mr David Songulashvili, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, accompanied by the State Representative of the Kakheti region, Mr Giorgi Aladashvili, and representatives of the World Bank, visited Sagarejo Municipality, where state officials inspected the rehabilitation works of the headwaters of the Kvemo Samgori irrigation system and the Right Main Canal.Â

During the visit, the Minister met with local farmers to understand their needs and concerns.

Over the past decade, the Georgian government has been actively working on land reclamation infrastructure projects, with significant support from international donor organizations.Â

As part of the rehabilitation project of the Right Main Canal of the Kvemo Samgori Irrigation System, implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture through LLC "Georgian Amelioration," a comprehensive 131-kilometer-long distribution irrigation network has been set up in Sagarejo Municipality. The network comprises 122 km of closed pipelines and 9 km of open canals.
The GEL 43.65 million project was funded with the financial support of the World Bank (WB). As a result, irrigation water supply has been enhanced for more than 6,050 hectares of agricultural land, benefiting over 20 villages across Sagarejo, including Sagarejo and Gurjaani municipalities.

From 2024 to 2029, the World Bank, in collaboration with the Government of Georgia, is implementing the Georgia Resilience Agriculture, Irrigation, and Land Project (GRAIL), with the Government of Georgia contributing €75 million.Â
