In November, 2018, citrus export figure is 11 times higher than in the same period of the previous year

Citrus season is in the active phase in Georgia. 551 tons were exported according to the November 1-11, 2017 data. Although exports has reached to 610 tons in the same period in 2018.
According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, this year citrus export figure is 6 times higher than in the same period of the previous year. Citrus exports reached to 718 tons from September 1 to November 11, 2018, although last year it reached to 106 tons.
In comparison with previous years, this year we enjoy an abundant harvest which gives us more opportunities to increase an export. Russia, Armenia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are remained as major markets for our production. With the support of the government of Ajara and the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara, the coordination center is operated in Adjara region to promote citrus fruit selling, logistics and to provide government subsidies. The center aims to ensure the smooth flow of tangerine delivery process.
The hot line of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (1501) is operated in the center, where all intereseted persons can get the necessary information. Non-standard and poor quality tangerines subsidize program will be launched from November 25.
Under the decision of the Government of Adjara, one kg of non-standard poor quality tangerines will get 10 tetri subsidy from state.
This year citrus harvest will amount to approximately 55-60 thousand tons.
