David Songulashvili Delivers Keynote Speech at a Panel Discussion on Climate Change in Baku.
Mr. David Songulashvili, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, participated in the international conference “Agriculture: Mobilising Countries for Nature” during his official visit to Azerbaijan. As part of the event, Minister Songulashvili delivered a keynote speech at the panel discussion titled “The World and Baku after COP29: Achievements, Perspectives and Opportunities in the Field of Climate Change.”
In his remarks, Minister Songulashvili underscored the global urgency of addressing climate change and highlighted the critical role of agriculture in advancing climate action.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to the hosts of the 2024 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) for their outstanding efforts in organising the conference, and their commitment to playing a vital role in driving the global climate agenda forward and fostering constructive dialogue among nations.
“Climate change affects us all,” stated Minister Songulashvili. “It is imperative that countries collaborate at both policy and practical levels. Georgia stands ready to deepen its cooperation with international partners, particularly within frameworks like COP and similar initiatives. Climate change is not a theoretical challenge—it is a daily reality that demands concrete action. Georgia is committed to taking these steps locally and abroad,” said David Songulashvili.
The Minister also welcomed the outcomes of COP29, especially decisions aimed at increasing financial commitments from developed nations and encouraging investment in climate initiatives, including greenhouse gas emissions trading schemes.
The high-level conference brought together senior officials from multiple countries, with the goal of promoting nature-based agriculture, fostering climate-resilient practices, and strengthening global cooperation in the fight against climate change.
The Georgian delegation included Deputy Minister Mr. Lasha Dolidze and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Zurab Pataradze, alongside Minister Songulashvili.
