David Songulashvili: “The state has financed the cultivation of new perennial gardens on more than 4,600 hectares in the Kvemo Kartli region, with state funding exceeding GEL 30 million ”.
During a visit to the village of Sartichala in the Gardabani Municipality, the Minister inspected the gardens established with state assistance. He also took the opportunity to meet with farmers living in the Kvemo Kartli region, who had benefited from the Rural Development Agency programs. The farmers expressed their appreciation and emphasized the importance of the state support. In turn, the Minister briefed them on upcoming initiatives aiming to foster agricultural development in the region.
The Minister emphasized the state's efforts to boost agricultural growth, noting that much of the success in Georgian agricultural production is due to such support. Kvemo Kartli, in particular, holds significant potential for producing apples, peaches, plums, walnuts, and other products. To use this potential, the state has financed the establishment of new perennial orchards covering over 4,600 hectares of area, with an investment exceeding GEL 30 million. As a result, local apple production meets most of the domestic demand, with surplus apples actively exported. Over the past ten months, Georgia exported 18,000 tonnes of apples, worth USD 11.3 million.
LTD "Cadel Business" is a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency. Several years ago, the company planted an apple orchard on 11.2 hectares of area, with an investment of GEL 2 million. Through the preferential Agrocredit Program, the company received a loan of approximately half a million GEL for orchard cultivation and the purchase of agricultural machinery.
Additionally, under the “Plant the Future” program, the company received co-financing of GEL 100,000. Last year, the company sold its apple harvest to local markets, particularly to the chains “Nikora” and “Ori Nabiji.” This year, the company expects to harvest 500 tonnes of apples.
In addition to the apple orchards, Minister Songulashvili visited the company’s modern, intensive pear orchard, where European pear varieties like Kaiser (Beurré Bosc), Conference, and Williams (Bartlett) are grown. The Minister also visited the LTD "Cadel Business's vineyard, where a table grape vineyard was planted in 2020 with state co-financing of GEL 27,700.
The Deputy Minister, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, State Representative in the Kvemo Kartli Region, Mr. Levan Kharabadze, and the Chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee, Mr. Gela Samkharauli, accompanied the Minister.
