David Songulashvili Meets with Wheat Farmers in the Dedoplistskaro Municipality.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, along with the Chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee, Mr. Gela Samkharauli, the State Representative in the Kakheti Region, Mr. Giorgi Aladashvili, and the Deputy Minister, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, visited the grain drying facility of farmer Nugzar Alughishvili in the Dedoplistskaro Municipality, where state officials held meetings with local wheat farmers.

The farmer benefited from a Preferential Agrocredit to create infrastructure with a production capacity exceeding 20,000 tonnes. The loan amount is more than GEL 1.4 million, with state co-financing of GEL 300,000.

During the meeting, Minister Songulashvili highlighted the positive trends in wheat production across the country. He also emphasized that the government's support is aimed at helping farmers increase yields and improve productivity.

The Mandatory wheat certification process has been underway in Georgia for several years.  A well-structured certification system ensures access to high-quality seeds and planting material, laying the groundwork for increased harvests, enhanced competitiveness, and attracting investments into the sector. Another key topic was the provision of agricultural equipment. As mentioned,  farmers have not faced significant challenges in this area in recent years, largely due to state co-financing for the purchase of dozens of modern combines.

In addition, the development of new wheat varieties with improved agricultural traits, such as higher yields and resistance to disease, was also mentioned at the meeting. These varieties are currently undergoing testing across different regions and climatic zones. Once the most suitable types are identified for each region, they are distributed to local farms.

Within the "Preferential Agrocredit" program, the government has significantly increased the upper loan limit for grain crop cultivation and care from GEL 100,000 to GEL 300,000. Preferential loans cover all stages of annual crop production, including purchasing seeds and planting materials, fertilizers, biological plant protection products, as well as labor costs, agricultural machinery rentals, and fuel expenses.
