Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Meets with UNDP Delegation.

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. David Songulashvili, held a meeting with a high-level delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mrs. Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Assistant Administrator and Director, Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

 

During the meeting, the parties reviewed ongoing joint initiatives and explored opportunities for deepening cooperation.
Minister Songulashvili expressed his gratitude for the UN’s longstanding and fruitful support, emphasizing the critical role of UNDP-backed projects in advancing agricultural development and environmental sustainability in Georgia.

 

“The Ministry and its Agencies have enjoyed active collaboration with the UN across multiple sectors. The UN’s continued support is vital to Georgia’s European integration process. We look forward to your partnership in effectively implementing the commitments under the Association Agreement,” stated Minister Songulashvili.

 

The conversation touched upon the collaboration on implementing Georgia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), climate change mitigation, air quality improvement, circular economy initiatives, waste management, and the development of early warning systems.

 

Mrs. Ivana Živković highlighted the successful cooperation with the Ministry in the fields of agriculture and environmental protection, emphasizing that coordinated efforts will continue moving forward. She also underscored the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the agricultural sector.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed future collaboration on environmental issues related to the development of the Middle Corridor—a critical regional transport and trade route.

 

“We appreciate our 30-year partnership with Georgia. Today, we addressed ongoing agricultural and environmental projects and discussed our shared priorities and commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture and environmental protection,” said Mrs. Živković.

 

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, Mr. Douglas Webb, UNDP Resident Representative to Georgia, Mr. Nils Christensen, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative to Georgia, Ms. Nino Antadze - Energy & Environment Team Leader, and Heads of relevant Departments from the Ministry attended the meeting.
