David Songulashvili: “We Signed a Memorandum with Our Hungarian Counterpart in the field of agriculture, outlining specific areas of comprehensive and in-depth cooperation."

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. David Songulashvili, held a bilateral meeting with the Hungarian Minister of Agriculture during the ongoing summit in Hungary.

“During the meeting with my colleague, we discussed key areas of cooperation in agriculture and forest management. The Memorandum we signed outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration, with a strong emphasis on knowledge exchange and academic partnerships. One of the key provisions is the opportunity for Georgian students to receive funding for academic studies in Hungary in the fields of agriculture and environmental protection,” stated Minister Songulashvili.

Minister Songulashvili also emphasized the importance of aligning Georgia’s agricultural standards with European norms, as stipulated in the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. In this context, Hungary’s experience and support are seen as especially valuable.

The Hungarian side expressed its willingness to allocate an expert to collaborate with the Georgian side on these issues.

The discussion also covered potential export opportunities for Georgian agricultural products in the Hungarian market.  Both sides highlighted forest management as a strategic priority, underscoring the value of exchanging best practices in sustainable forest governance.

Earlier today, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Palace in honor of Georgian Prime Minister Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, who is on a two-day official visit to Hungary. As part of the visit, Prime Minister Kobakhidze will meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Mr. Viktor Orbán for high-level talks, and bilateral negotiations will be held between the members of the two country's Cabinets of Ministers.
