David Songulashvili: “Residents of the Imereti region, including farmers, have the opportunity to access high-quality services of the National Food Agency directly on-site.”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited the Imereti regional office of the National Food Agency, where he met with the staff and reviewed the Agency’s material and technical capabilities.

During his visit, Minister Songulashvili emphasized the importance of the smooth operation of the National Food Agency in the region, noting that all three of its core functions—food safety, veterinary services, and plant protection—are crucial for developing the agricultural sector.

According to the Minister, enhancing the capacities of regional services—including professional staff, modern infrastructure, and up-to-date equipment enables the implementation of agricultural development and environmental protection policies.
As mentioned, due to these improvements, the population of Imereti, and especially local farmers, can access efficient, high-quality services from the National Food Agency directly on-site.

According to Mr. Giorgi Iakobashvili, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency, recent infrastructure projects implemented with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture have significantly enhanced the capabilities and quality of services of the Agency’s regional offices.

“The Imereti Regional Department covers 12 municipalities, where agency inspectors carry out regular market inspections and veterinary services, including free animal vaccinations. In addition, plant protection measures are actively carried out, primarily involving treatments against the Brawn Marmorated Sting Bug," noted Mr. Giorgi Iakobashvili.

Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, Member of Parliament representing Tkibuli, Terjola, Zestaponi, and Bagdati municipalities, Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Kakha Kakabadze and Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Mr. Levan Zalkaliani, State Representative in the Imereti Region, and Mr. Giorgi Darchia, Director of the Rural Development Agency accompanied the Minister.
