David Songulashvili: “The Kutaisi Laboratory Provides Western Georgia with High-Quality Agricultural Research”.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, along with Mr. Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, visited the staff of the Kutaisi Zonal Diagnostic Laboratory.
During the visit, the Minister toured the laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art technology, familiarized with its operations, and received comprehensive information about the laboratory’s diagnostic services.
Special attention was paid to the new research methodologies- planned to be adopted in 2025. Notably, fifteen studies on the diagnostics of fish diseases have already been implemented as part of this initiative.
“International-standard laboratory diagnostics play a vital role in advancing agriculture. The Kutaisi Zonal Diagnostic Laboratory ensures high-quality agricultural research in Western Georgia, significantly contributing to regional development. Strengthening laboratory services at the regional level remains a top priority for us, as it is essential for the production of healthy and safe products,” stated the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
According to Mr. Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, the laboratory’s capacities are expanding both in terms of diagnostic scope and technical equipment. Plans are underway to introduce additional modern, internationally recognized diagnostic areas, which will enhance the laboratory’s effectiveness and further improve diagnostic support for Western Georgia.
The laboratory’s primary focus includes diagnostics of animal diseases—particularly those caused by high-risk pathogens—as well as laboratory testing of food products and drinking water quality.
Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, Member of Parliament representing Tkibuli, Terjola, Zestaponi, and Bagdati municipalities, Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze and Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Mr. Levan Zalkaliani, State Representative in the Imereti Region, Mr. Levan Zalkaliani, and Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr. Giorgi Darchia, accompanied the Minister.
