David Songulashvili Meets with the Staff of the Western Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited the Western Regional Division of the Department of Environmental Supervision, where he met with staff members and observed the ongoing workflow.
During the meeting, the Minister was briefed on current challenges and activities in the region; he emphasized environmental protection as a key priority for the Georgian Government, adding that the Ministry aims to ensure the prevention, suppression, and detection of environmental violations by strengthening the capacities of the Department of Environmental Supervision.
As mentioned, in the Imereti region, special attention is given to issues such as illegal logging, poaching, unauthorized extraction of mineral resources, and atmospheric air pollution. Kutaisi, one of Georgia’s four largest cities, is among the areas where the Department actively monitors visible vehicle emissions on roadways as part of its environmental oversight.
“The construction of the Western Regional Office was completed last year. During the visit, it was emphasized that efforts will continue to create adequate working conditions for staff and equip them with modern technical tools—an essential factor and a prerequisite for effective state environmental control,” said Mr. Levan Jgharkava, Head of the Department of Environmental Supervision.
The Member of Parliament -representing Tkibuli, Terjola, Zestaponi, and Bagdati municipalities, Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, the Deputy of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, and the State Representative in the Imereti Region, Mr. Levan Zalkaliani, accompanied the Minister.
