Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili Meets with Japanese Ambassador Ishizuka Hideki.



Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. David Songulashvili, held a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, H.E. Ishizuka Hideki. 

 

During the meeting, the parties discussed current and future cooperation in the fields of agriculture and environmental protection.
Minister Songulashvili highlighted the successful joint projects between Georgia and Japan, emphasizing the crucial role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in supporting these initiatives. 

 

Mr. Songulashvili expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Ishizuka for Japan's long-standing support and underscored the importance of sharing Japanese expertise and adopting advanced technologies to enhance Georgia’s agricultural and environmental sectors.

 

The parties focused on the development of Georgia’s tea industry, noting that Japanese support in the mentioned area would contribute significantly to improving both the quality and volume of local tea production, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of Georgian farmers and producers.

 

Additionally, Minister Songulashvili addressed the growing interest in Georgian wine in the Japanese market, underlining the importance of further efforts to increase its visibility and demand among Japanese consumers.

 

The conversation touched upon the bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). Georgia is actively collaborating with Japan on the implementation of this emissions trading scheme, which facilitates the adoption of advanced decarbonization technologies, systems, services, and infrastructure.

 

Ambassador Ishizuka reaffirmed the strong and successful partnership between the two countries, expressing the Japanese side's continued commitment to sharing knowledge and providing technical and financial support across various sectors.

 

The Deputy Minister, Mr.  Lasha Dolidze, and the Heads of relevant Departments attended the meeting.
