The Parliament of Georgia has adopted amendments to the “Environmental Assessment Code” in the third reading with 83 votes.

The draft law was presented to the Parliament by Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

As a result of the adoption of the draft law, the procedures for environmental impact assessment provided by the Code will be refined, simplified, and made more effective, ensuring the smooth implementation of economic activities.

According to Mrs. Tandilashvili, the amendment to the Environmental Assessment Code is crucial as it will make the procedures for environmental impact assessment and the issuance of environmental permits as transparent and effective as possible. In addition, the Code aims to simplify relevant business operations. The amendment also introduces a more flexible decision-making process.

It is noteworthy that the Environmental Assessment Code has been in force since 2018 and was one of the first legislative acts to fully align national legislation with the EU Directives on Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment.
