World Ranger Day Marked Across Four Locations in Georgia.

July 31 is observed globally as World Ranger Day. This year, the occasion was marked with large-scale events held at four key locations across Georgia: Lagodekhi Protected Areas, Kolkheti National Park, Algeti National Park, and Sataplia Managed Reserve. The Agency of Protected Areas has organized the celebrations.

The event held at the Lagodekhi Protected Areas was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili.

''Today is World Ranger Day. Nearly 500 rangers are responsible for protecting Georgia’s unique natural heritage across 25 administrative units within the country’s protected areas. These territories cover more than 13% of Georgia’s total land area, which makes the rangers’ duties complex, demanding, and often high-risk.
Once again, I caongratulate all rangers. Together, we will continue working to safeguard Georgia’s natural legacy. Our remarkable nature also belongs to future generations, and that is precisely why it deserves our special care,” stated Mr. David Songulashvili.

As of today, Georgia’s protected areas comprise 100 sites—including 14 state reserves, 15 national parks, 40 natural monuments, 26 managed reserves, 5 protected landscapes, and 1 multiple-use area—covering more than 13% of the country’s territory and spanning over 920,000 hectares.

As part of the World Ranger Day events, the “Ranger of the Year” was traditionally selected in each of the 25 protected area administrations across the country. The winners were awarded certificates and symbolic gifts.

Participants also paid tribute to the memory of rangers who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

The event at the Lagodekhi Protected Areas was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, along with First Deputy Minister, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Chair of the Agency of Protected Areas, Mr. Besik Amiranashvili, and local government representatives. All extended their congratulations to the rangers on their professional day.
