David Songulashvili: “Expanding Forest Maintenance and Restoration Efforts in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region Is a Top Priority for the National Forestry Agency”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, along with the State Representative in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mr. Zaal Gelashvili, met with employees of the local forestry service and got familiar with their working conditions.    

 

“In recent years, the forests in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region have suffered significant damage due to wildfires, as well as infestations and diseases. As a result, scaling up forest maintenance and restoration efforts in the region is a top priority for the National Forestry Agency, and intensive work is already underway,” stated Minister Songulashvili.

 

As of today, forest restoration activities are being carried out across 629.7 hectares in the region. In 2025, an additional 190.1 hectares will be reforested.

 

The Deputy Minister Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, Member of Parliament for Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Borjomi, and Aspindza, Mr. Anton Obolashvili, Chair of the Akhaltsikhe City Council, Mr. David Lomidze, and Head of the National Forestry Agency, Mr. Kakha Tsertsvadze, accompanied the Minister.
