Levan Davitashvili opened the ESCAP Forum
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili opened the Forum of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The participants have been focused on the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDG) and highlighted results achieved by different countries.
Levan Davitashvili underlined the importance of reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia in recent years and brought forward challenges related to the sustainable development goals of 2030.
"Environmental protection is the priority of our country. We have significant accomplishments in environmental regulations, but we also face challenges like sector education because we think that the basis for sustainable development is to get proper education " -said Levan Davitashvili.
The Minister thanked the representatives of the international and non-governmental organizations, governments of different countries for participating in the forum and for the reforms implemented in the environmental field and expressed hope for future cooperation.
The Director of Environment and Development Division, United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP) for Asia and the Pacific, Stefanos Fotiou and UN Permanent Representative and Head of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia, Neil Scott addressed the participants of the forum.
It is very important that, Georgia is the host country of the Forum. The forum enables us to get information about achievements and challenges faced by different countries accross the region and share experience, which will create the basis and foundations for future productivity and growth.
The high rank official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia attended the forum along with the representatives of international and non-governmental organizations.
The forum brings forward issues related to the development of the new UN agenda for 2015-2030, regional consultations for the implementation of sustainable development goals, as well as deepening trade-economic, social and political relations between member states.
