David Songulashvili: “Proper Infrastructure and Working Conditions Are Key to Effective Environmental Oversight Nationwide”
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Office of the Environmental Supervision Department to review ongoing renovation works and meet with staff.“Renovation of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Office of the Environmental Supervision Department will be completed by the end of the year. Appropriate infrastructure and working conditions are among the most important factors for ensuring effective state environmental control across the country,” said Minister Songulashvili during the visit.
The Minister was briefed on operational challenges and workplace needs by the employees of the regional office. Discussions focused on strengthening capacity to respond to environmental violations in the region.
Poaching and violations of the Waste Management Code remain the most common offenses in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. In response, the department carries out continuous, 24-hour monitoring to ensure compliance and uphold environmental standards.
The Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Division of the Environmental Supervision Department was officially established as a separate territorial body two years ago. Until 2023, the Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Shida Kartli regional departments were combined into a single territorial body, the Eastern Regional Department.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, State Representative in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region Mr. Aleksandre Zagashvili, Regional Delegate Mr. Dimitri Khundadze, Head of the Environmental Supervision Department Mr. Levan Jgharkava, and representatives of local self-government.
