Over 2,000 Hectares of Apple Orchards Established with Co-Funding under the “Plant the Future” Program
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited an apple orchard of the ‘’Tiriponi Gardens'' LLC in the village of Kvarkhiti, Gori Municipality, aiming to observe the ongoing apple harvest.
‘’Tiriponi Gardens’’ LLC, a beneficiary of the Rural Development Agency, has successfully established 28 hectares of apple orchards and 2.8 hectares of pear orchards with the support of the state program “Plant the Future” and the Preferential Agro-Credit Project. The orchards are equipped with modern drip irrigation systems, anti-hail nets, and a meteorological station.
Notably, since 2017, ‘’Tiriponi Gardens’’ has been the first apple producer company in Georgia, which obtained the GlobalG.A.P. certification.
This year, the company expects to harvest approximately 1,000 tonnes of apples, with the majority destined for the local market and part of the yield exported to Turkey.
Through the "Plant the Future" program, the Rural Development Agency has co-financed the establishment of apple orchards on 2,227 hectares across the country, with total financial support exceeding GEL 20.2 million. Of this, 1,877 hectares are located in the Shida Kartli region, with the co-financing amounting to GEL 16.9 million.
Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, State Representative in Shida Kartli region, Mr. Simon Gulgeldani, and Acting Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr. Giorgi Avaliani.
