The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture discusses the Harmful Impact of Plastics
The Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture organized a meeting with school students to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastics.
During the meeting, Mrs. Irma Gurguliani, Deputy Head of the Department of Waste and Chemical Substance Management Policy of the Ministry, spoke about the dangers of plastics and the importance of reducing their usage.
As mentioned, excessive consumption of plastic in Georgia, as well as globally, is one of the major challenges for public health and environmental protection.
It is worth mentioning that in Georgia, approximately 612.5 million single-use plastic cups, lids, food containers, knives, forks, spoons, straws, plates, and drink stirrers are consumed annually, totaling between 3.9 and 5.9 thousand tonnes of plastic.
