David Songulashvili Meets with Employees of the Guria Forestry Service and Reviews their Working Conditions.
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, along with State Representative in Guria, Mr. Giorgi Gurjumelidze, visited the Guria Forestry Service Office, met with the employees, and reviewed their working conditions on site.The Guria Forestry Service has 80 staff members, including 5 foresters and 39 forest rangers. The renovated office serves the population of 184 villages across the Guria region. Local residents can access a range of services provided by the National Forestry Agency in the upgraded facility.
One of the Agency’s top priorities is the promotion of multi-purpose forest use, which is an essential part of the National Environmental Policy, supporting private sector involvement and the sustainable use of non-timber forest resources, as well as the development of ecotourism. All efforts contribute to job creation and the expansion of income opportunities in the region.
Notably, the forest restoration activities are currently underway on up to 700 hectares in Guria. Regarding forest inventory, a comprehensive assessment was conducted in the region in 2017 - 2025, providing updated data on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of 74,600 hectares of forest. Based on this data, 10-year forest management plans have been prepared, forming the foundation for effective forestry operations and sustainable management.
Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze and Mr. Zurab Ezugbaia, including representatives of local self-government bodies.
