David Songulashvili: “To Foster the Growth of Agricultural Production, It Is Essential to Ensure Maximum Accessibility of Laboratory Research Services in the Regions”
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited the Ozurgeti branch of the Agricultural Laboratory, where he inspected the facility’s modern infrastructure and advanced equipment, and met with laboratory staff.Mr. Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Agricultural Laboratory, briefed the Minister on the laboratory’s ongoing activities in diagnosing diseases caused by especially dangerous animal pathogens, including conducting drinking water quality testing.
As mentioned, the Ozurgeti Laboratory continuously introduces new research methodologies and enhances its technical and operational capabilities. According to statistical data, the number of laboratory service requests has increased significantly compared to previous years, which is a clear indication that the Ozurgeti Laboratory possesses all the necessary resources to provide high-quality services to the local population.
During his visit, Minister Songulashvili also met with employees of the Guria Regional Office of the National Food Agency.
The Minister emphasized that food safety, veterinary services, and plant protection are interlinked fields that together ensure a safe and sustainable environment. Therefore, strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Food Agency is crucial. It is essential that residents of the region have access to the full range of services offered by the Agency locally.
As mentioned, each employee of the Agency plays a vital and responsible role in ensuring the supply of safe food to consumers, maintaining the epizootic well-being of the country, and safeguarding plant health.
Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze and Mr. Zurab Ezugbaia, the State Representative in Guria, Mr. Giorgi Gurjumelidze, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency, Mr. Giorgi Iakobashvili, and representatives of local self-governments.
