David Songulashvili Visits Sturgeon Breeding Farm in Khutsubani

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, visited the sturgeon breeding farm operated by Georgian Fish and Caviar in the village of Khutsubani, Kobuleti Municipality. The Minister met with fish farmers and was briefed on the challenges facing the sector.

 

During its development phase, Georgian Fish and Caviar has benefited several times from the “Preferential Agrocredit” program. The farm produces around 200,000 sturgeon annually, with the products sold on the local market.

 

Since 2013, within the framework of the Preferential Agrocredit Program, 1,694 loans worth more than GEL 155 million have been issued to support the development of the fisheries sector, with the Rural Development Agency’s co-financing exceeding GEL 23 million. In the Autonomous Republic of Adjara alone, loans worth GEL 5.8 million have been issued, while the Agency’s co-financing amounting to approximately GEL 1.4 million.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Mr. Denis Salukvadze; the Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Zurab Ezugbaia and Mr. Kakha Kakabadze; and the Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, Mr. Irakli Guledani, attended the meeting.
