The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture hosted an Interagency Coordination Council to discuss a New Draft Law on Hunting.
The Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Zurab Ezugbaia and Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, chaired the meeting.
The draft law introduces a hunter certification system, the breeding of local species, the establishment of hunting farms, individual licenses for hunting local species, and a Species Conservation Service focused on protecting and monitoring species populations.
Mr. Revaz Bejashvili, Head of the National Wildlife Agency, outlined key hunting issues. He emphasized that the destruction of wildlife populations is a serious problem and that areas outside protected territories are highly vulnerable to poaching.
“Over the past five years, we have actively studied international practices. Based on this experience, we have developed a new draft law that will, on the one hand, promote the protection and restoration of species populations, and on the other, foster the development of hunting culture in Georgia,” stated Mr. Revaz Bejashvili.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, along with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mrs. Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Regional Development Mr. Zurab Iashvili, and representatives from the Ministries of Economy and Sustainable Development and Finance, attended the meeting.
