David Songulashvili: “This Year, Georgia Recorded Its Largest Grape Harvest – 340,000 Tonnes”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture summarized the 2025 grape harvest, noting that Georgia recorded its largest grape harvest in the history of independent Georgia – 340,000 tonnes.

“In Kakheti, the country’s primary winemaking region, approximately 330,000 tonnes were harvested—40,000 tonnes more than last year. In Racha, about 3,000 tonnes of grapes were collected, compared to only 1,500 tonnes in previous years. Considering such a large harvest, the primary challenge was to organize the harvest as efficiently as possible, ensuring that the entire yield was properly stored. Storing this quantity of grapes required significant capacities. A total of 22,000 grape growers received their harvests, which were processed and stored jointly by the private sector and the state. Overall, GEL 475 million flowed into the sector during the harvest – an unprecedented and highly significant figure. I also want to highlight that, for the first time this year, no harvest subsidy was implemented; instead, the state purchased surplus production directly from the population,” said Mr.  Songulashvili.

According to the Minister, this year, for the first time, differentiated prices were set based on grape quality. Moreover, even stricter quality standards will be applied shortly. In this regard, the National Wine Agency will issue relevant announcements, which grape growers should pay close attention to. Ensuring a high-quality harvest is fundamentally important.
