David Songulashvili: “During our follow-up visit to the State of Israel, we continue to discuss areas of cooperation between the two countries.”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Davit Songulashvili, is paying a working visit to the State of Israel.

“The Minister of Agriculture and Food Safety, Mr. Avi Dichter, along with his team, visited Georgia recently. We reaffirmed the strong partnership between our countries, including our shared commitment and capacity to deepen our bilateral cooperation. Israel is a global leader in agricultural innovation, technology, and research.

Today, we signed a Declaration of Intent, which lays a solid foundation for new and ambitious joint initiatives. Cooperation under the Declaration of Intent is multifaceted, including expanding trade in agricultural products, strengthening collaboration in food policy and food safety, introducing modern irrigation systems, enhancing cooperation among scientific research institutes, and developing educational programs. In accordance with the signed document, a working group will be established, which will identify priority areas to guide future agricultural cooperation between the two countries,” stated Minister  Songulashvili.

The Minister also assessed his visit to Israel’s national agricultural research institute, the Volcani Center, noting that Georgia has a fruitful 10-year history of cooperation with the institution.

“During our meeting at the Volcani Center, we outlined the directions for future cooperation. Educational programs and joint research remain priorities; in particular, student exchange programs are of great importance, as they will not only facilitate the sharing of knowledge but also further strengthen the friendship between our nations. Equally important is cooperation in water management, testing climate-resilient crop varieties against the backdrop of climate change, and introducing modern technologies to increase productivity,” the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture noted.
