David Songulashvili Meets with the Minister of Agriculture of Kenya
Within the framework of the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kenya, Mr. Mutahi Kagwe.The First Deputy Minister, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mr. Gia Macharadze, attended the meeting.
“Mr. Minister, I would like to thank you for this productive and interesting meeting. There is a strong interest and a clear readiness to further deepen and strengthen our partnership. We are particularly interested in exploring opportunities for importing products from Kenya to Georgia, processing and re-exporting them, which will further strengthen Georgia’s position as a regional hub and establish our country as a reliable partner for Kenya,” said Minister Songulashvili.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized opportunities to enhance bilateral agricultural cooperation, including knowledge exchange and the sharing of best practices, joint research and innovation, and strengthening value chains and farmer-based enterprises.
The parties also discussed trade opportunities between the two countries, including the export of Georgian wine, hazelnuts, apples, fruit, and vegetable juices to Kenya, and the import of Kenyan tea, coffee, and tropical fruits to Georgia.
According to Kenya’s Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mutahi Kagwe, the visit of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia represents an important opportunity to establish cooperation between the agricultural sectors of Georgia and Kenya and define areas of mutual engagement.
“We are very pleased and hope that following the Minister’s visit, the flow of Georgian tourists will also increase, which will further support the expansion of our existing relations,” stated Minister Kagwe.
At the end of the meeting, both parties expressed their readiness to continue close cooperation in agriculture, including livestock and trade, which will facilitate the implementation of bilateral initiatives and strengthen the partnership.
