David Songulashvili Meets the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry of Kenya, Deborah Mlongo Barasa
As part of the Seventh Session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, met with the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Mrs Deborah Mlongo Barasa.During the meeting, the parties emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, particularly in the face of global climate challenges. Minister Songulashvili also highlighted the ongoing environmental reforms in Georgia.
“As Georgia advances in reforming its national environmental governance system, the Government’s primary goal is to enhance environmental conditions for its citizens while rigorously upholding its international obligations. Long-term environmental solutions, whether accelerating the transition to a circular economy or reducing pollution, can only be achieved when the state ensures a peaceful, stable, and secure political environment that enables every sector to focus on development and innovation,” stated Songulashvili.
The discussion also addressed the significance of bilateral cooperation. Potential areas of collaboration included climate resilience, sustainable forestry, biodiversity, and protected areas management.
Mrs Deborah Mlongo Barasa expressed readiness to deepen cooperation with Georgia and share Kenya’s experience, including in developing management plans for protected areas and the forestry sector.
The Georgian and Kenyan Ministries will continue to strengthen their partnership and advance shared environmental goals.
Mr David Songulashvili extended an official invitation to the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary to undertake an official visit to Georgia.
