David Songulashvili: “Citrus is one of the top agricultural crops delivering significant economic benefits.”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  David Songulashvili, visited Kobuleti to observe the citrus handling and storage process. According to the Minister, the central government is in active coordination with the authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara to ensure that the citrus delivery process is carried out efficiently and without disruption.

“Given this year’s abundant harvest, it is crucial that the entire volume of produce is properly stored. The process is coordinated by local authorities in close cooperation with the central government, enabling the full storage of the harvest and supporting increased export volumes. Despite the scale of this year’s harvest, the key priority remains the full and efficient completion of the citrus delivery process,” Minister Songulashvili stated.

Citrus is a key agricultural crop delivering significant economic benefits. Demand for Georgian citrus remains strong on both local and export markets, supporting sector growth and encouraging high-quality standards among farmers. In addition, processing facilities operating in the region accept non-standard tangerines, creating additional sources of income,” Mr. Songulashvili noted.

Notably, exported citrus volumes exceed 20,000 tonnes, generating approximately USD 12 million in revenue. Within the framework of the subsidy program for non-standard citrus, GEL 4 million has already been allocated.
