The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili, held a meeting with automobile importers

The draft of the technical regulation “On the Management of Waste from End-of-Life Vehicles'' was discussed at the meeting.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister addressed issues related to reducing environmental pollution and the importance of regulating waste management, emphasizing the necessity of coordinated cooperation with the business sector throughout this process.

According to Mr Solomon Pavliashvili, through close communication with the sector, it is essential to develop regulations that are flexible and acceptable for policymakers and regulators, as well as for the business community.
As mentioned, the objective of the technical regulation draft is to define extended producer responsibility obligations related to the management of waste from end-of-life vehicles, as well as to establish clear rules for the handling of such waste.

The draft technical regulation also aims to ensure the prevention of waste generation from end-of-life vehicles, promote reuse, recycling, or other forms of recovery, and reduce the disposal of such waste.

As stated, similar working discussions will continue in the future.

The working draft of the technical regulation is based on the Waste Management Code while considering relevant European Union directives in the mentioned area.

The Heads of the Ministry’s relevant Departments attended the meeting.
