Meeting with the Representatives of the Dairy Sector

Mr. Lasha Avaliani, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, met with the representatives of the dairy sector.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister presented key initiatives planned for 2026, including stricter controls over primary production and animal movement, as well as the gradual adoption of a veterinary prescription system.

The parties also addressed the maximum allowable aflatoxin limits in raw milk and mechanisms for promoting raw milk production.

“At the initiative of the dairy sector, we met with the representatives of the dairy industry, embracing both primary producers and processors. We discussed several ongoing issues and the challenges currently facing the market and the sector as a whole. We also discussed plans, which will be launched this year and will contribute to the development of the local sector and enhance consumer awareness,” stated Mr. Avaliani.

Representatives of the dairy sector positively assessed the meeting format, noting that regular communication with the state and coordinated decision-making are essential to overcoming the industry's challenges.

“A meeting was held between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and representatives of the dairy industry. For us, as an association, this meeting is encouraging, particularly in light of the announced initiative to establish permanent committees and working groups that will focus on the pressing issues currently facing the sector. As part of the meeting, we observed another important factor: the Ministry is prepared, on the one hand, to present its own vision and proposals for sectoral development and the improvement of control mechanisms, and on the other hand, to listen to the challenges and suggestions coming from the industry. We are confident that joint efforts will enable us to take successful and effective steps,” noted Mr. Kakhа Koniashvili, Head of the Association of Milk and Dairy Product Producers.

Mr. Giorgi Iakobashvili, Head of the National Food Agency, Mr. Nikoloz Beniaidze, Chair of the Dairy Farmers’ Association, and Mrs. Ana Mikadze-Chikvaidze, Head of the Cheese Producers’ Association, attended the meeting.
