David Songulashvili: “Opportunities exist to lower local product prices and enhance the presence of Georgian agri-food products in retail chains.”

“ The meeting with local producers was particularly important and insightful, as it highlighted several key issues. First and foremost, there is clear potential to reduce prices for locally produced goods while also increasing the presence of Georgian-made agri-food products in organized retail chains—an important factor for the sector’s development. Today’s meeting underscores the opportunities for local producers to both expand domestic agri-food production and reduce prices, which ultimately will have a positive impact on citizens across the country,” stated Mr. David Songulashvili.

Today, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a meeting with Georgian producers as part of the Government Coordinating Commission addressing food prices.

As stated by the Prime Minister, preliminary findings indicate that the current market rules present certain obstacles for Georgian producers in placing and commercializing their products within domestic retail chains.

The commission meeting was attended by 25 representatives of local production.
