Public Discussion on the Draft Law on ’Import, Export and Transit of Waste’’

The public discussion on the Law of Georgia on the ‘’Import, Export and Transit of Waste’’ was held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
The meeting was led by the Head of the Waste and Chemical Substances Management Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Alverd Chankseliani. The draft law was developed in accordance with the Basel Convention on the ‘’Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal’’ and Euro regulation.
The law regulates import, export and waste transit related issues.The procedures of approval and notification is given in the draft law, which also includes procedures for providing the information, make changes in the transit of transboundary movements of hazardous waste, illegel transportation- transit and related liabilities, issues of shipping fees etc.
The representatives of the sectoral departments of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Georgian Revenue Service, representatives of non-governmental organizations and private sector attended the meeting.
