Possibilities of planting berry crops in Georgia

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili met with the Head of K. Hamboullas & Son Ltd. Company, Marios Hamboullas. Berry crop production and development related issues have been brought forward at the meeting by two sides who also discussed possibilities of future cooperation in this direction.
Giorgi Khanishvili introduced guests with the berry crops development project launched by Georgian Government. The Deputy Minister underlined agricultural potential of the country and opportunities to implement direct foreign investments. 
According to Giorgi Khanishvili, planting berries will facilitate to increase effective use of agricultural lands in Georgia and create new jobs, which will further bring significant economic benefits to the country.
The Head of the Company K. Hamboullas & Son Ltd. Marios Hamboullas noted, that Georgia's soil and climate create favorable conditions to develop berry crop production.The country has the great potential to produce competitive, export products. Embracing this potential could lessen the need to increase imports and replace imported products with local ones.  
The participants discussed issues related to the berry crop production technologies and introduction of high-yielding varieties in Georgia.
The Honorary Consul of Georgia to Cyprus Loizos Markides, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture,  Sectoral Departments and Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meeting.
