Climate Change Conference held in Georgia

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili made a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the conference.
Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targeting at the development of the national policy on climate change will be introduced within the open dialogue format at the conference.
According to Levan Davitashvili, open dialogue enables us to make an effective plan on climate change. The Minister thanked the organizers, German government and German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) as well as participants of the conference for their active engagement.
"In 2015, Georgia showed it’s attitude at the national level while signing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Georgia is actively involved in developing the policy which on one hand, reduces climate change on the other hand makes a climate change adaptation plan. For us it is important to reduce maximum amount of emissions in economic development and to have a national policy on climate change adaptation. Coordinated work of all institutions is important. Under the frame of the EU initiative "Covenant of Mayors", 23 municipalities of Georgia are obliged to reduce emissions by 20% by 2020, "said Levan Davitashvili.
The Head of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Embassy of Germany in Georgia, Daniel Haas declared, that Georgia has signed a UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which imposes a number of obligations to the country.
"This is a very complex issue. Today's event is very important, as conference hosts all organizations and stakeholders engaged in the development process of climate change policies. I am glad that German government is making contributions with respect of this activity "said Daniel Hass.
The representatives of the governmental and non-governmental organizations, international organizations and private sector attended the event.
