Levan Davitashvili hosted the OIE General Director

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture,  Levan Davitashvili hosted the Director General of the World Health Organization (OIE), Monique Eloit.
At the meeting, the Minister underlined the importance of the veterinary education as regulated profession in the country and highlighted projects implemented in the veterinary field.
"I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for your cooperation. It is important that Tbilisi hosted the 28-th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe. Such events promote Georgia's international reputation in terms of animal health and welfare. "said Levan Davitashvili.
The Director General of the World Health Organization (OIE stated, that Georgia's involvement in the OIE-World Organisation for Animal Health is very important.
"We are ready to assist you in implementing legislative amendments and to further increase Georgia's export potential, which is an important component for the economic development of the country " -said Mrs. Eloit.
After the meeting, Levan Davitashvili and Monik Eloit attended the 32th meeting of the National Animal Health Program NAHP Steering Group, which was headed by the Head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili. The members of the steering group shared information regarding National Animal Health Program to the representatives of OIE and discussed ways to take further steps and adopt new members.
The participants have been focused on measures taken against the infectious disease in cattle (Lumpy skin disease (LSD)  on which the National Food Agency devotes special attention and resources.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency, National Center for Disease Control, Agriculture laboratory, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO) and the Comprehensive Institutional Building Program (CIB) and representatives of international organizations attended the Steering Group meeting.
It should be noted, that the National Animal Health Program of Georgia sets out vision, tasks, goals and specific priorities to improve the health of animals and develop the veterinary sector. The workshops of the Animal Health Program Steering Group are periodically administered once in three months.
