Ministry hosts Representatives of the Beekeeping Sector.
The Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Lasha Avaliani and Mr. Lasha Dolidze, held a working meeting with the representatives of the beekeeping sector.
During the meeting, the parties focused on the importance of aligning state support programs with the practical needs of farmers, as well as addressing legislative issues affecting the sector.
Special emphasis was placed on promoting honey exports and enhancing laboratory capacities, including measures that will improve product quality control and boost competitiveness in international markets.
“Like all agricultural sectors, beekeeping faces critical systemic challenges that require discussion and active involvement from the Ministry. Despite the challenges involved, we agreed to establish a working platform to systematically identify the most pressing issues for the sector and reach collective decisions. The Ministry will continue active cooperation with the beekeeping sector,” noted Mr. Lasha Avaliani.
Aleko Papava, Head of the Georgian Beekeepers’ Association, praised the initiative to hold meetings in this format. According to him, through close and consistent collaboration between the state and the industry, the sectoral challenges could be gradually resolved.
“The meeting was very productive, and I believe that similar gatherings should certainly continue. The sector faces several significant challenges, which we can gradually resolve through close collaboration. For us, the registration of beekeepers and the identification of apiaries are particularly important priorities, as they will contribute to the systematic development of the sector. It is also essential to refine legislative regulations and continue support projects for beekeepers,” said Aleko Papava.
Mr. Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, Mr. Vasil Kvernadze, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency, as well as heads of relevant departments of the Ministry, attended the meeting.
