Meeting with Vegetable Crop Producers

The Deputies of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Lasha Dolidze and Mr. Lasha Avaliani, held a working meeting with vegetable crop producers to address opportunities for the development of the sector and current challenges.

 

“During the meeting, we discussed legislative and regulatory matters, access to services, including irrigation water supply, and mechanisms for knowledge dissemination and financing. We agreed to continue our cooperation within the framework of specific projects that will include improvements to the financing system, enhanced monitoring, and creating more effective schemes for knowledge sharing,” stated Mr. Lasha Dolidze.

 

During the meeting, farmers received comprehensive information about the new irrigation water tariff set by the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC). Participants discussed changes to the irrigation water tariff subsidy mechanism. As emphasized, prompt contracts for melioration services with water users guarantee a reliable irrigation water supply and support the efficient operation of the system.

 

 

“Together with farmers, we reviewed issues related to the start of the 2026 melioration and irrigation season. Moreover, farmers shared their opinions and views , while we presented new programs related to the subsidy mechanism, a new contract system, the use of modern technologies, and the timely provision of information essential for farmers,” noted Mr. Gigla Tamazashvili, Director General of Georgian Amelioration LLC.

 
 

According to the farmers, the meeting was productive. They emphasized the importance of having the opportunity to personally share their views with representatives of the Ministry and continue dialogue on the challenges facing the sector.

 

Mr. Zurab Gozalishvili, Director of the Rural Development Agency; Mr. Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture; Mr. Zurab Lipartia, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency; and heads of relevant departments of the Ministry attended the meeting.
