David Songulashvili: “Protecting Consumer Rights Is Our Shared Responsibility”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, participated in the opening event of the 4th International Consumer Protection Week.

 

In his remarks, the Minister discussed the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture aimed at strengthening consumer rights protection.

 

 

“Our Ministry and its affiliated Agencies are implementing policies and action plans focused on building a system that ensures a high level of public satisfaction. Food safety, veterinary services, and plant protection are three key areas united by one primary goal: ensuring that consumers have access to safe food. Consumers today benefit from improved protection. The business sector is informed about the state requirements based on international standards, and state control is functioning well. Our goal is to ensure consistently reliable, competitive, and safe products at all production stages. We aim to supply the market solely with safe food, ‘’ stated the Minister
 

 

The Minister also highlighted several significant initiatives, including reducing plastic usage, implementing an action plan for the sustainable use of pesticides, regulations aimed at protecting atmospheric air, and simplifying service procedures within the Ministry system.

 

 
‘’Ongoing reforms have already streamlined our procedures. We will soon introduce an even more flexible mechanism. Protecting consumer rights is our shared responsibility, and our main goal is to foster high public trust and satisfaction, ‘’ stated the Minister.

 

 
Approximately 200 guests attended the opening event of the week, comprising representatives from the executive and legislative branches, the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, international partners, and industry experts.

 

 
The 4th International Consumer Protection Week is organized by the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC), the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), the Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia (ISSSG), and the National Food Agency (NFA).
