Working Meeting Held with the Representatives of the Aquaculture Sector

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Lasha Dolidze, held a meeting with the representatives of the aquaculture sector to discuss the current state  and development prospects of the industry.

The parties focused on managing fish diseases, strengthening laboratory capabilities, retraining specialists, and enhancing support for the aquaculture sector through state programs.

“During the meeting with representatives of the aquaculture sector, the key challenges facing the industry were identified, including water tariffs, the adoption of modern technologies, and the provision of laboratory services. We agreed that dedicated working groups will be established to address specific issues, and that efforts will be coordinated within defined timeframes to achieve effective results,” stated Mr. Lasha Dolidze.

The discussion included new irrigation service tariffs and state subsidy mechanisms. As mentioned, the state will fund the majority of water supply expenses for fish farms.

“The Government will subsidize 80% of the water supply costs for fish farms. If farmers sign agreements with Georgian Amelioration LLC, we will ensure that water is supplied systematically and that the corresponding infrastructure is properly maintained. At the same time, it is essential to ensure the rational use of water resources and improve monitoring,” stated Mr. Gigla Tamazashvili.

Notably, the Ministry regularly holds meetings with farmers and industry representatives to promote the development of the aquaculture sector.

The LEPL State Agricultural Laboratory has already adopted modern methods to facilitate the study of fish diseases and advance the development of the sector. These approaches ensure timely diagnosis and effective disease prevention, while enabling farmers to obtain results on-site in full compliance with international standards.

Mr. Gigla Tamazashvili, Mr. Levan Ujmajuridze, Mr. Giorgi Iakobashvili, Mr. Irakli Guledani, as well as representatives from the Ministry and the aquaculture sector, attended the meeting.
