Lasha Avaliani: “ Rehabilitated Dogs Will Be Returned to Zugdidi”
“Last year, a law on companion animals was adopted, regulating key issues, including removing animals and returning them to specific locations. The law also restricts animal presence in areas such as parks, schools, and medical facilities,” stated Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Lasha Avaliani, while discussing the dog overpopulation management program.
The Deputy Minister explained that new subordinate acts prohibit keeping dogs in designated areas, including agricultural markets, to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
The regulation further specifies that dogs must not be allowed to return to such locations.
“ Currently, out of the 29 remaining dogs that have been sterilized or castrated, 12 will be returned to their original locations within the next two days. The remaining 17 will be returned after rehabilitation, which is expected later this evening or tomorrow morning,” Mr. Avaliani noted.
According to the Deputy Minister, the dogs will be returned to the Zugdidi area instead of being relocated to an uninhabited area.
