The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture commented on the procedures for managing stray dogs
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture provided clarification regarding the procedures for managing stray dogs, noting that this process has been functioning effectively for several years in Tbilisi, as well as in the Adjara region. The same system should be established in all municipalities, as stipulated by relevant legislation, subordinate normative acts, and it falls within the competence of local self-government.“Since 2012, we have had an animal identification and registration program. Initially, we have carried out the registration of farm animals. For the past few months, we have been using this same database to register stray animals. Claims that such a program does not exist are not true. However, as the legislation has introduced additional functionalities, while the existing database remains in use, we are currently working on a new program. This program is expected to be ready by June. Veterinary clinics, grooming centers, and private shelters will be integrated into the system,” stated Mr. Lasha Avaliani.
