David Songulashvili hosts the Wheat and Flour Producers

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, met with the representatives of the Wheat and Flour Producers Association and flour-producing companies.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key challenges in the sector, current trends, and development prospects.

The discussions centered on expanding local production, ensuring market stability, and enhancing the overall competitiveness of the wheat sector. Particular emphasis was placed on addressing the needs of farmers, identifying ways to increase production efficiency, and further developing and strengthening state support mechanisms.

According to Minister Songulashvili, sectoral councils will be established under the auspices of the Ministry to ensure effective communication with industry stakeholders, including the timely identification / consideration of farmers’ needs.

“The sectoral councils will enable us to meet regularly with field representatives and jointly review existing challenges and emerging needs. The respective format will support the sustainable development of the sector, facilitate the timely identification of problems, and promote effective decision-making. Moreover, wheat production is one of the key directions in agriculture, and it is essential that the views and interests of all stakeholders involved in the sector are taken into account,” stated Mr. David Songulashvili.

The wheat and flour producers positively assessed the Minister’s initiative, emphasizing that such a structured framework for cooperation would make a meaningful contribution to effectively addressing existing challenges within the industry.

“We discussed ongoing processes shaped by global trends, which are reflected both in the region and in Georgia, including developments related to wheat, flour, and bread prices. It is essential to maintain market stability amid these challenges. During the meeting, we presented specific proposals and discussed ways to implement them. We also agreed that the creation of sectoral councils will serve as an effective platform for regularly addressing, identifying problems and providing solutions,” said Mr. Levan Silagava, Executive Director of the Wheat and Flour Production Association.

The Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Lasha Avaliani and Lasha Dolidze, along with the Heads of relevant Agencies, attended the meeting.
