David Songulashvili: “Since 2012, agri-food production has been growing annually by 7–8%”
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, spoke about the state's vision for agricultural development, noting that the agricultural sector in Georgia began a trajectory of development from 2012 under the governance of the Georgian Dream party.“Agriculture had been entirely disrupted. Under the Georgian Dream party, the sector became a central focus. Since 2012, agri-food production has been increasing by 7–8% annually. It is standard practice to review policy frameworks every 10–15 years. In our case, this process must also take into account the geopolitical context, disruptions in supply chains in our region, a fragile regional environment, and rising prices for fuel and pesticides. These factors are key components of agricultural production, and their shifts have further accelerated the need to reassess agricultural policy. Today, one of the most pressing global challenges is food security. Accordingly, this has become a major focus in our policy approach,” Mr David Songulashvili stated.
According to the Minister, improving the self-sufficiency ratio and further promoting export growth are priority directions. These are the core objectives underpinning the Ministry’s programs and projects.
