David Songulashvili meets with walnut and almond-producing farmers and exporters

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. David Songulashvili, met with walnut and almond producing farmers and exporters to discuss the key challenges in the sector and its development prospects. During the meeting, the Minister presented an initiative to establish a sectoral council that will support and coordinate activities within the industry.

As mentioned, the walnut and almond production is one of the country’s rapidly developing and important sectors, playing a significant role both in supplying the domestic market and in increasing exports.

“Walnut and almond production is among the fastest-growing sectors. This field holds significant export potential for our country. Therefore, a relevant council has been established, which will enable active communication with sectoral representatives, discussion of existing challenges, and the development of mechanisms that will support the sectoral growth and the creation of new export products,” said Mr. David Songulashvili.

The primary goal of the sectoral council will be to identify existing challenges, share innovations, and develop effective support mechanisms for farmers.

The council meetings will be held monthly under the supervision of a Deputy Minister, and once every quarter under the direct leadership of the Minister. This format will promote active engagement with sector representatives, better consideration of farmers’ interests, and the planning of projects aimed at developing the sector.

The Deputies of the Minister, Mr. Lasha Dolidze and Mr. Lasha Avaliani, along with the Heads of relevant Agencies within the Ministry system, attended the meeting.
