David Songulashvili: “The State Agro-Co-financing Program is based on knowledge and experience and will deliver results for each farmer in the shortest possible time.”

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr David Songulashvili, the country has not only the potential to substitute imports but also a geographical advantage, making it attractive for export markets.

“Georgia is a country with limited arable land; we cannot be competitive in mass production. However, we have the resources to compete in high-quality production, which is currently in short supply. Agriculture is a long-term sector, so defining the right policy is particularly important. Several steps have already been taken in this direction, which have laid the groundwork for the new project.

Both Georgian and international field experts and specialists were involved in developing the Agro-Co-financing Program. We have also incorporated best practices from other small land-based countries. The project is based on knowledge and experience and will deliver results for each farmer in the shortest possible time. Last year, we held meetings with farmers in all regions, where a number of their needs were identified, and all of our decisions are driven by those needs,” said Mr David Songulashvili.
