David Songulashvili: “It became vital to reevaluate agricultural assistance programs and accordingly encourage the production of high-quality, competitive products."
According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr David Songulashvili, agricultural policy is periodically reviewed in line with established practices. The Minister further stated that a full phase of agricultural development has been completed.
As Mr Songulashvili noted, the geopolitical environment has significantly accelerated these processes. Ongoing wars and regional crises have led to disruptions in supply chains and shifts in economic dynamics, creating new challenges for agri-food security.
He further emphasised that these developments have underscored the importance of improving the country’s self-sufficiency rate. This entails substituting imports with domestically produced goods, while channelling additional resources into sectors where Georgia has export potential, thereby further strengthening export capacity.
“It became necessary to reassess agricultural support programs and accordingly incentivise the production of high-quality, competitive products,” said Mr David Songulashvili.
