As part of the “Collect Knowledge” initiative, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has donated more than 1,700 books to penitentiary institutions.
The Ministry joined the book collection campaign “Collect Knowledge,” organised by the Vocational Training and Retraining Centre for Convicted Persons. With the active involvement of Ministry staff, over 1,700 books were collected for inmates and will be distributed across various penitentiary institutions. An exhibition and sale of handcrafted items made by inmates was also held at the Ministry.
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Zurab Ezugbaia, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Mr Merab Turava, and the Director of the Vocational Training and Retraining Centre for Convicted Persons, Mrs Tamta Demurishvili.
“Engagement in similar initiatives is crucial for us, as they foster the resocialization of convicted persons and promote their access to education.”
In cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, we plan to implement several projects to support inmates' professional development. Notably, the micro-enterprises are already operating within penitentiary institutions, where agricultural products are produced. With the support of the Ministry, this direction will be further strengthened and expanded,” stated Mr Zurab Ezugbaia.
For many years, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has been cooperating with the Vocational Training and Retraining Centre for Convicted Persons to support the resocialization and rehabilitation of inmates. Within the framework of this partnership, numerous educational initiatives have been implemented, aiming to enhance the professional skills of convicted persons.
